Matching Grant Scheme

Make Your Mark on the Next Generation

Eighth Matching Grant Scheme

Starting from July 2019, every dollar you donate will be matched by the HKSAR Government under the Eighth Matching Grant Scheme. This is a wonderful opportunity to make your donation count for generations to come.

About the Alumni Endowment Fund (AEF)

Created in 2012 and representing a milestone in HKUST history, the AEF is our first ever endowment fund to receive donations mainly from alumni.

Funding for the Future

Following our strategy of maintaining the principal amount in perpetuity and using only the income from investments, the AEF continues to provide a reliable source of funding. Thanks to keen support from our alumni, the fund has grown impressively since its establishment, supporting a variety of initiatives and making a lasting positive impact on numerous students’ lives.

Every Dollar Counts

All contributions, large or small, are greatly appreciated by everyone at HKUST, because they mean more students can benefit. As our alumni population grows, we firmly believe that the AEF will become an even more significant resource for our students. The more alumni who participate, the greater the beneficial ripple effect will be, so we strongly encourage you to support this worthy initiative.

For direct donation, please use the online form. Your generous support will be eligible for tax deductions. For donors who would like to support HKUST with their United States-based assets, they can enjoy tax-deductions by contributing to our non-profit partner Give2Asia. Message from President Prof. Wei Shyy

Dear Alumni,

HKUST continues to grow and develop at a rapid rate, and it’s all thanks to the unfailing support shown by you, our fine alumni. All of you have been playing an integral part in shaping the success of your alma mater over the years, and I am deeply moved by your generosity.

I’m thrilled to announce that, from July 1, 2019, the Hong Kong SAR Government will match every dollar you donate under the Eighth Matching Grant Scheme. This comes in addition to a very generous offer from alumnus Lee Shing Put to match your contributions personally, donating a total of HK$10 million to the Alumni Endowment Fund (AEF). This means, for every dollar you give, HKUST will receive four, multiplying the benefits fourfold. No matter how big or small, your donations make an important difference to everyone at HKUST.

Since its creation in 2012, the AEF has opened up new possibilities for thousands of students. Thanks to your contributions, we’ve been able to offer opportunities that not only enrich our students’ university experience and personal development, but alter the course of their lives – many have overcome financial hardships that may have otherwise hampered their studies.

We trust that your contributions to HKUST are just as rewarding for you as they are for us, and we encourage more alumni to donate and strengthen the giving culture we’re so proud of. As the matching grant is distributed on a competitive first-come, first-served basis, we recommend you act now!

Thank you for helping us reach ever higher levels of excellence and achievement.

Yours,

Professor Wei Shyy
President

"I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to study at HKUST. This is one of the fondest memories in my life. I learned a great deal on the academic side, which has really helped me in running my business, but I learned so much more than that, too. My professors and classmates enlightened and inspired me and, in learning more about my self, I became a much more confident person.

At HKUST, I made a lot of close friends and we built lifelong friendships. They have made a profound impact on my life. Giving back is a natural way to express my gratitude to my alma mater. I sincerely encourage my fellow alumni to show their support and make a real difference to the next generation."
